GIVING BACK
Giving Back with Loving Hands
At Popeye’s, we work hard to build a profitable business, but we are proud to profit from work that benefits humanity. We make a point of giving back to our community and support a number of charities with our donations of time, energy and funds.
Here is some information on some charities that you, too, can help support.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure®
Today, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists. Breast cancer is not predictable – it is a random disease. There are no boundaries – age, race, religion, socioeconomic status are not factors. It is the leading cause of death among women ages 40 – 59. Breast cancer strikes women during their most productive years – both personally and professionally. Everyone is affected by breast cancer – it’s a family disease. We don’t know what causes it, and we don’t have a cure. Early detection is critical, providing more treatment options and a greater chance of survival.
The South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has a service area of Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties. We partner with many local nonprofit organizations to help raise breast cancer awareness and provide much needed funds to serve our community and save lives. Empowering people is important to us.
By supporting the local Affiliate and the Susan G. Komen South Florida Race for the Cure®, you can make a difference right here in our community today as well as help fund research that is necessary to end breast cancer forever.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer over the past 25 years – transforming how the world talks about and treats this disease. We have helped turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors. With more than $1.3 billion invested to date, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s single largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to curing breast cancer at every stage – from the causes, to the cures, to the pain and anxiety of every moment in between.

Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital
Established in 1992, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital combines advanced technology and the expertise of the largest, most diverse group of board-certified pediatric specialists in the region. With its summer 2011 expansion, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital now has 204 beds and is South Florida’s newest freestanding children’s hospital.
In its first year of operation, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital’s medical staff included 90 physicians and patient admissions numbered 2,000. Through the years, the hospital has enhanced and expanded its services and programs to help meet the growing and diverse needs of the community.
The hospital is staffed 24 hours a day by world-class pediatricians, pediatric specialists, specialty-trained nurses and ancillary support staff. Today, more than 650 physicians are on the medical staff, and during the 2010 calendar year our team recorded:
- 8,157 admissions and observations
- 5,095 pediatric surgeries
- 50,892 Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital pediatric emergency department visits
- 96,804 Memorial Healthcare System pediatric emergency department visits
Uniquely inspired by and designed for kids and families, the freestanding building offers many amenities. The vibrant colors, whimsical d©cor and larger-than-life murals welcome children to an upbeat environment where the “Power of Play” is a healing force. Each floor reflects an individual theme of sports, arts, games or dreams. All patient rooms are private and are wired for movies, video games, the Internet and educational programs, and room-service meals are available any time of the day.
This four-story, 180,000-square-foot, environmentally friendly facility features six pediatric operating rooms, dedicated medical/surgical units, family resource centers, ambulatory services, imaging services that feature a CT scanner disguised as a pirate ship, and an entire floor dedicated to inpatient and outpatient pediatric oncology treatment.
A glass pedestrian skywalk connects to the Wasie Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive/Cardiac Care Unit, and Level 1 Trauma Center and Children’s Emergency Department.
Conveniently located on the campus, Conine Clubhouse provides a special home away from home for families of hospitalized children. Accommodations are based on availability.
The team at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital embraces a patient- and family-centered approach to care, working with families in the effort to best meet the needs of the child.
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Southern Florida Chapter Team In Training®
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS’s) roots stretch back to 1949, when the de Villiers family experienced the devastation of leukemia with the death of their 16-year-old son, Robert Roesler de Villiers. Family members and friends declared war on the disease by creating The Robert Roesler de Villiers Foundation, funding research to find a cure. The foundation later became The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Our mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Team In Training® History
Team In Training (TNT) began in 1988, when Bruce Cleland of Rye, NY formed a team that raised funds and trained to run the New York City Marathon in honor of Cleland’s daughter Georgia, a leukemia survivor.
The team of 38 runners raised $322,000 for LLS’s Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter. Because of the pioneering efforts of Cleland and the Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter, Team In Training was born and has grown into the world’s largest endurance sports training program. Cleland was honored by Runner’s World magazine in 2004 as one of their “Heroes of Running” for his role in establishing TNT.
Join the more than 40,000 runners, walkers, cyclists, hikers and triathletes who will participate in the world’s major marathons, triathlons, hiking adventures and century rides this year on behalf of LLS. Fill out our online Tell Me Moreform for more details.
